Get it Right Away

Story Behind The Song

This song even though retro in flavor makes a great opening number and crowd-pleaser. It's a simple red-hot rock-pop tune (also easily twanged in the direction of country) and it gives me the credit to play more ambitious tracks. I wrote it when I was circa 23 yr old, in university, and feelin' my oats, even though I was in science rather than business. The lyrics are in post-ironic mode and can be read as straight-up, satirical or both.

Song Description

raucous urban folk blues rock: slightly ironic look at a young guy in business getting ready to take over the world and get rich with work work work. He's got big attitude: "you can smell the roses when the bank forecloses, otherwise you better make hay" but he knows it's a dangerous joyride: "I ain't gonna look back til my second heart attack, then maybe I'll take off a day" (but the attitude comes first) "but not right away!!!"

Lyrics

Get it right away

genre: raucous urban folk blues rock

Vrese: Gonna take it like a high dive, going over the border
?cause it ain?t enough to be alive when you?re taking those orders
?cause you gotta be a live wire, put it on the fire, charge like a ram all day,
get it right away, get it right away

Well, I?m feeling like a salesman, like a hustler in clover
?cause the wind is in my sails and it?s gonna carry me over.
I?ve had five cups of caffeine, and I?m feeling pretty mean, gonna work like a dog all day,
get it right away, get it right away

Chorus:
I?m a crazy city robot in a crazy time,
can?t slow down, gotta step it up, gotta keep it moving down the line.
Gonna be high brass, gonna change my collar class, be a honcho without delay,
get it right away, get it right away.
Can?t get sentimental or you might accidentally lose your grip:
gotta hang on, gotta rattle along and never let a rivet slip.
You can smell the roses when the bank forecloses; otherwise you better make hay:
get it right away, get it right away

Verse: Gonna do it by moonlight, gonna burn my candle.
Gonna strike it like a snakebite, yes I?m hard to handle.
Well, I ain?t gonna look back til my second heart attack, maybe then I?ll take off a day,
but not right away, not right away
Well, I?m feeling like a salesman, like a hustler in clover
?cause the wind is in my sails and it?s gonna carry me over.
I?ve had five cups of caffeine, and I?m feeling pretty mean, gonna work like a dog all day,
get it right away, get it right away

Repeat chorus.
