Story Behind The Song
I originally got the idea from that story on the news a couple of years ago where a woman was asking for someone to marry her so that she could obtain health insurance. At first I though that it was a rather mercenary act, but later on I started wondering exactly what it was that people were looking for with such postings. I had some trouble making the lyrics work when they were directed at the specific idea of the woman and her video, so I decided to make it more general and to use Craigslist as a template.
Song Description
Looking at the posts on Craigslist you get the idea that most people are looking for companionship, not necessarily romantic love. People don't like to be alone.

Lyrics
Single White Male
Single male seeking independent lady
Who likes episodes of "Lost@, and also is crazy
About books and foreign films nothing that=s too trendy
And walking on the beach, and it would help if youre 420 friendly....
And maybe we could....
And maybe we can....
This is pointless how do you make an ad in 50 words or less
Like a magic spell to drive away the loneliness
Cause when you come down to it when it's really not that tough
I need someone who'll put up with me...we can stop way short of love
Someone who'll put up with me when I'm not at my best
Someone who can laugh it off when I've made another mess
Cause when you come down to it, when push comes to shove
I need someone who'll put up with me...we can stop way short of love
It's like when you wake up in the early morning hours and
You want move your hands or make a sound but you can't
You lie in the dark and you don't know if you still dream
Afraid if you move you might start to unravel at the seams
Then the woman next to you mumbles something in her sleep
And slides a little closer so that your fingertips can meet
The clock begins to tick again just from that single touch
And you can breathe, get up and get a drink, and you're not afraid so much
(Chorus)
I saw a show on atoms on Discovery Channel last fall
How they're mostly empty space and if shot into a wall
The distance between them make the chances of collision
So very small, just an unlikely.... coincidence
Some people are like atoms, saddled with romantic visions
Hoping every day for just one collision
Always taking one more run into that wall
But mostly flying blind never touching anyone at all
(Chorus)
