Story Behind The Song
A personal story of the gay closet, or coming out on a trip to Europe, then having to go back in the closet when returning home to the Midwest. Part of a concert-length commissioned choral work about what it is like to grow up and live as a gay man in the Midwestern Heartlands.

Lyrics
In high school I dated girls,
I thought I was straight,
No one there was gay.
I went through the motions,
I played the right games,
Still I couldn't love my girl. . . .
