Story Behind The Song
My nephew died tragically and helplessly in a creek. He told his dad he was going to kayak in the creek to his dad' home. He had been so happy, just sold some fish he caught- a s fishing trip with his young son. Story told from the perspective of his dad. I felt I had to say something. The words felll out. He wasn't an angel, but drowning is a cruel fate. His heart was restarted with CPR, but his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long. After several days doctors said there was no brain activity, he was alive but only because of machines. My other brother in law said God gave him to you, now it's time to give him back. Machines were turned off.

Lyrics
Sweet son
I'm sittin here all alone,
I know you're not comin' home.
The only things left are memories
Pictures of you and me
Boy to man it happened so fast
In between the cameras' flash
I had a son,
One I dearly loved
Never thought this day would come
A day I'll never forget
Run down to a waters edge
Watch them try to save my son
Chorus:
Fate took you from me,
In our favorite creek
When they said you died
I knelt down and cried
An empty room echoes the truth
I'm alone can't hold you
Time don't heal the hurt
So I wrote these words
Preacher read the 23rd psalm
Said your spirit lives on
Hope we'll meet again
Please watch over me 'till then
Today I stand in that creek
The place where you left me
Watch your ashes float away
Lift a drink, look around and say,
Repeat Chorus
