Story Behind The Song
Dad in the hospital facing an uncertain possible brief future. My brother showed me a cell phone video he had where dad was singing happy birthday to his sister without thinking about his condition. In that moment this song was born.
Song Description
My dad was my hero when I was young, but like all children I grew up, and we grew apart. The love I felt fr him never went away jus became lost and easily forgotten. A steady progression of age and changes made him seem vulnerable and that bothered me , but he was always there. When he went into the hospital for heart failure our past and future seemed like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I wasn't as close to my dad as I had been at a young age, but my sisters were. This song was for them but also a cathartic for me.

Lyrics
Intro
In that moment
The world went silent
Dad lyin' in bed
Fightin' for every breath
Verse
Soldier and a dad
Hero to a 2-year-old
Fate wasn't always kind
Took his wife and child
Leavin' us his soul
I hang my head and cry
Arguments and fights
Oh I wish I could go back in time
Chorus
In that moment
The world went silent
Dad lyin' in bed
Fightin' for every breath
I'm seein' the truth
Knowin' there's nothin' I can do
Good-bye for the last time is comin'
The only words he said were full of love
Verse
He always made the best of it
Years slowed him bit by bit
Life's fadin' away
My memories remain
Won't forget his words
It's my time
I lived a good life
Arguments and fights
Oh I wish I could go back in time
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
My heart won't stop talkin' to my head
Last moments and past regrets
Parts of life, parts of us
Everything that was
Close my eyes
Take a breath and I whisper goodbye
Repeat Chorus
The only words he said were full of love
