Story Behind The Song
A cross-character using bits of my father, grandfather and an average Indian farmer.
Song Description
The farmer in the song describes the background of the culture in which he is born, and what is expected from the oldest son in the Hindu tradition. He wishes to break free and pursue his dreams of singing, but maintains his duties to the family of being the dependable one. He makes sure that his children are allowed to pursue their own dreams and works hard to make that true.

Lyrics
BIHARI STAR
1ST Verse
Dekho dekho mere yaaro
Dekho dekho wohh sitaaro
Humare dil me pehli baar
Me dekh ra hu mere yaar
I was born into this world under a star in the sky
By a mango tree they said that I opened my eyes
Tears from my mother words from my father of pride
As the oldest child to attention I always snapped
I spent my youth in a village unmapped
I quietly dreamt of singing but I knew that to this life I’d be trapped
1st CHORUS
There is something you must understand
My duty is to farm the fields and sift through the sands
And I must care for my family each day
So much work to do
Yet sometimes I say
I’d like to dream for a few minutes
But there’s no time left today
2nd Verse
So a family man I became and married a good wife
We worked hard to give our kids a much better life
Save a little money to help them get into a school
Well I heard them complain why bother to learn
I sat and explained what in life they could earn
With knowledge in their heads their own destinies they could rule
2nd CHORUS
I lived standing still as the dutiful son
But I hope my kids will go where they can run
A land of dreams far away from this place
To send them I’ll toil, wipe sweat off my face
I’ll plow this land ‘til blood flows from my hands
Their dreams I chase
And now I sleep my final night under that star
Where I was born now I die in Bihar
But all my kids have realized their own dreams
And now here they are
Under my star
By my bedside
Their tears fill the night
But smilingly as I escape to my final dream
I hear a newborn’s cries
