Story Behind The Song
After the Asian tsunami in 2004, I (Jeanine Guidry, one of the main writers of this song), found myself absorbed by the news for 3 or 4 days. And then on the fifth day I went to bed at night and realized that I had not once thought about it, and it shook my world. Hundreds of thousands of people dead, lives and livelihoods destroyed, and just because it was not in my backyard I was apparently able to block it out and just llive my life as if nothing had happened. When we as a band went away on a songwriting weekend a few weeks later, we wrote this song as a response, and to ask the question of ourselves.
Song Description
Written after the 2004 tsunami in South Asia, this song asks the question how disasters and devastation that happen far away affect our lives.

Lyrics
Cry for freedom
Starved for food and hope
Thirsty for the healing water
Fragile hearts beat soft and frail
Hanging in the balance
Hope forsaken, life forgotten
Dreams shortchanged left unfulfilled
No one there to wipe their tears
Relief does not come near
Do I cry for freedom
Do I cry for lives at stake
Can I see around my life
Into the sorrow of this world
People swept away in currents
Not a chance to say goodbye
A father?s daughter, a daughter?s mother
Will not be home tonight
Souls screaming in the darkness
Waiting to be set free
Who will show them mercy
Who will ease their pain
Do I cry for freedom
Do I cry for lives at stake
Can I see around my life
Into the sorrow of this world
Pictures of loss and longing
Images of despair
When will this devastation
Get underneath my skin
