I Should Have Left Long Ago

Story Behind The Song

The song covers the current feeling among anti-government groups that can't seem to get satisfaction/justice for many issues they've researched. Lower courts don't honor any arguments - The judge gives the law and disallows any discussion of it. Currently am outfitting a sailboat for flight.

Song Description

I say, I'll stay and fight what I see as an illegal taxation of our personal labor. Currently, there are thousands of people unhappy with the way the country is being run, phoney wars, lies, theft of people's savings, Homeland Defence and loss of privacy, a general tendency towards fascism coupled with the public's overwhelming obliviousness to what is happening to them... I'm not the only one that is alarmed...we're are thousands.

Lyrics

I Should Have Left Long Ago
words & music by Noel Diotte, c2003.

I decided to stay and fight a fight
claim my Constitutional right
the Judge and Jury don?t think I am free
Say they want to teach a lesson to me

Chorus:
I knew I should have left long ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
the IRS and Homeland defense
being an American just don?t make sense
now I?m enchained in these prison walls
the next five years in Mendonhall

Never had reason to fear the law
until I read some and then I saw
they told a lie that everyone believed
I had the choice to fight it or leave, now..

I knew I should have left long ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
the IRS and Homeland defense
being an American just don?t make sense
now I?m enchained in these prison walls
the next five years in Mendonhall

Many reasons delayed my flight
wanted to run ? yet stay and fight
the Judge and the Jury didn?t think I was free
say they wanna make an example of me

I knew I should have left long ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
the IRS and Homeland defense
being an American just don?t make sense
now I?m enchained in these prison walls
the next five years in Mendonhall

I knew I should have left long a ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
the IRS and Homeland defense
being an American just don?t make sense
I knew I should have left long ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
now I?m enchained in these prison walls
the next five years in Mendonhall
I knew I should have left long ago
Vamp
I knew I should have left long ago
in a small boat down to Mexico
