Story Behind The Song
journal:
Two nights ago, I chatted over yahoo messenger with a women who responded to my ad on yahoo personals. In our conversation she brought up her brother who committed suicide seven years ago at the age of 17. She sent over a photograph of him and when I saw the picture I was speechless. I saw so much. We talked about him for a while and that night as I laid down to sleep I thought about him. I was so moved that the next morning I began working on a new song born from inspiration of viewing his photograph. OPEN UP YOUR EYES. When complete, this will be one of my strongest compositions.
journal the following day...
I have spent much of the last couple of days working on this composition, I've added verses and it is coming to life in a very dynamic way. I have thought many times about MLK's speech and energy while working on this piece, I want it to have that kind of weight when people hear it, I want it to go all the way through your soul and settle somewehere deep in your spirit. I very much so look forward to taking this into the studio.

Lyrics
They tried to tell me who I was but I wouldn?t hear because their words were poison rain falling down from
heaven?s hell, the darkest light would cast it?s spell on us.
Doctrines of men, a devils delight for jaded sight and there were no questions to be heard by the men I now see as blind.
Laws decreed, in their hypocrisy, no the face of God could never be seen. Suppression of soul, oppression of mind, my spirit weighed down to never realize that the hold on me was a mold on me to become what I should never be. You fox, deceivers, stealer of life, you?re exposed in your evil, cause we found the way!
And then I heard him say?
Open up your mouth and breathe
Open up your soul and sing
Open up your self and be!
OPEN UP YOUR EYES AND SEEEEE!!!!
Warriors of this generation rise up with me and take a stand for something more than money sex and fame.
Look within yourself and you will find a vision and a dream! Meet me in the morning my friend and let us take back what was stolen from us! By the power vested in you and me, we have a chance, we have a freedom, a promise from the creator of life, for sometime real, something greater, something eternal. It?s love and faith and hope, a reason to live, a reason to breath, a reason to fight with every drop of blood in our veins! Do you believe in love, do you believe in love!
