Zimbabwe

Story Behind The Song

Music was written first. The lyrical content reflects for me the musical tone of the song - the chorus chords are quite emotive in the structure.

Song Description

The ongoing situation in Zimbabwe is something few can ignore. The rich, corrupt and powerful leaders, and their indifference to the suffering of the people of Zimbabwe, are something I felt compelled to write about. Original concept was to write the song from the viewpoint of the native people, but on reflection it could also be said to apply to the white farmers who were removed and the resulting food disaster.

Lyrics

They're walking for miles with their lives on their heads
And wondering what the future holds
For each of their children
Sadness abounds on the long road ahead
Wondering when the next meal comes
For each of their children
And when they dream about the future
They dream of one day going home
To the land where they were born
The land that they rightfully own

It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
The eyes of Zimbabwe are wondering if we really care

Their voices are gone big feet in the air
Crushing every dream they had
For each of their children
Hunger abounds with arms outstretched
Wondering if it's the last breath
For each of their children
And while they're questioning their faith
The ones with all the power just smile
They are waving all their fingers
Of blame across the thousands of miles

It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
Tears of Zimbabwe no tears from a millionaire

It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
The eyes of Zimbabwe are wondering if we really care

nice vibe - I like the flavas and the instrumentation choice - the vibe is expecting good things..really neat song idea like the lyrics as well!

I like the feel of the song, the lyrical content is informative. This is somthing i'd hear in the dentist office or walking through the airport. It has very "easy listening feel"

Very well done song with nice arrangement, instrumentation, and a very important message.

nice song.......

An excellent take on the human condition. the lyric is really quite nicely constructed. The recording is produced very well, and I believe with the right marketing, this song has excellent potential. The feel and flavor remind me of Level 42...great bass players align. I really do like the instrumentation...the synth pads play well together. Well done Nigel!

There is a whole lot to like about this song! To start with- it has lyrics with a definitive message and so kudos for that!!! The instruments (although mostly programmed) support the track well enough to convey the song in a positive way. The lead vocals are solid as well as the background vocals which compliments the song well. Best wishes!!!

A capturing introduction that takes the listener's imagination on a journey. A wonderful array of cleverly articulated lyrics. The questions posed within the chorus offer introspective thought. The instrumental sections are timed well.
An uplifting instrumental with an 80's style essence. Well crafted original lyrics and use of imagery.

the voice and production takes me back to the 80s. Protest and awareness song with some good playing really enjoyed the piano and the musical break at around 3 minutes was really very good, vocal has a good story teller voice with some neat backing vocals. Like the track the mix and production was for me from another decade (one I know and love) particularly bass and drums - good job

* Sequenced synth intro starts tune nicely
* Lead vocal has unique & memorable quality
* Instrumentation/arrangement is full and lush
* Drums/rhythm track keeps a good groove; tight bass!
* Tasty key modulations and instrumental hooks
* Great closing piece for a TV/Movie/Documentary

A feel good vibe sneaks in while I listen to this light, airy arrangement. I like it and the overall sound is familiar as it takes me back to the 80's/90's in a good way. Good vocal performance and well played.

Nice concept for a song good easy listening pop song
