Great Commission

Story Behind The Song

I originally wrote this song just to teach kids the Great Commission. When I got ready to record it, Jamie and I felt it needed "something more" to make it more interesting. I came up with the idea of putting a story in there. It was really fun trying to fit the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch into the structure of the song and making it rhyme and fit. I was happy with the result.

Song Description

The Great Commission in song. This is a great way to teach kids and grownups the last command of the Lord Jesus Christ. Message is "fleshed out" in the second verse in the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.

Lyrics

Hear the words of the Lord Jesus Christ:

All authority has been given to me
In heaven and on the earth
Go therefore and make disciples
Of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father
And the Son and the Holy Spirit
Teaching them to observe
All that I commanded you.
And lo, I am with you always
Even to the end of the age
Matthew 28:18-20

Gallopin' to Gaza
The Eunuch takes a ride
Chariot wheels are whirlin'
Reads Isaiah on the fly
The angel of the Lord is whisperin' to Philip
"Go down to the desert cuz I got a job for you."
"You'd better run a little faster!"
"You gotta jump up with that dude."
Phil was preachin' Jesus,
Hit him right between the eyes
Passin' by the water
Says, "I wanna be baptized!"
Philip did the dunkin'
Cuz the eunuch was sincere
When they popped out of the water
Preacher Philip..................disappeared!

All authority...

I liked the instrumental intro...

the song teaches a Bible lesson. never heard that one before. I liked the duet version of the song were everything was repeated.

Love the children repeating lyrics....very good idea. Really nice guitar coming in and out. Nice teaching tool for kids to learn scripture. Liked when the song was raised to another key. Loved ethereal sound in background

The theme was apparent from the very start. The call and response helps the listener be able to actively participate in the experience. The song kicks right in, which means that listeners are immediately immersed in the song. The lyrics were well-thought out and not the typical, redundant variety. The male vocal background vocal was in a Sting-style and was interesting. I like the galloping horse sound effects. Overall, a very interesting and powerful song.

Excellent learning song for children to sing along to. The simple melody makes it very fun and easy to learn. well done.

I love how you have the kids echo you - caught my heart right away!
The beat really drives this song, loved it. ohhhh, and that guitar is awesome. I love the key change as well. I like how you put the Word in between the Chorus verses singing with the kids.I could see how this would be a great song to use in a Kid's Bible Study! And your ending rocks - "I will never leave you or forsake you" - great!!

Love scripture songs! Enjoyed the tribal feel of this one. Songs are a very catchy way to teach children the Word. Well Done! I especially enjoyed the sound effects, a great way to hold interest in what could otherwise be a somewhat redundant melody. Nice work!

Very interesting song, love the kids singing, great for a live church service. I really loved the message! Cool song!

Very catchy! Good vocals, instrumentation and arrangement

i like the use of kids in the song gave it a real poppy we are the world feel.

Nice choir and vocalsit,positive feeling!

1st listen, good strong intro, VERY good vocal sound here, lyric clear, good referenc to scripture passages Matthew, good, female vocal arrives, this is a very very good song, well arranged, message is clear and sincere.....2nd listen now, these children sound very very good singing this unison, and a choir approach would have ruined the revival feel, this is just a great track, rating now... market pot 5 cuz this could sit in any christian radio station rotation easily as-is, hear more o yes 5, lyric 5 throughout, hook down to 4 for lack of solid hook but this is a story song so a repeating hook mark is ufair anyway, instr qual 5 good sound well-played simple and sweet, all vocal pitches excellent 5, rec-qual 5 marketable as-is pro-quality sound, arrangement dropped to 4 for lack of any bridge but again this is a story song so unfair to even judge that here, originality 4 cuz honestly this has been done before with the stock chord progression but again its a STORY song so unfair to judge that but i cannot give a 5 sorry, overall 5 absolutely, a top-notch, well written, well performed, well-recorded old-time gospel group feel here, and the children sing the lines with passion and conviction, great track, so go market it
