Feed Me, I'm Hungry

Story Behind The Song

I care about starving children, so I wrote this song.

Song Description

This song draws the listener in with compassion and takes him to Uganda, Haiti, El Salvador, Lebanon and Somalia to hear the pleading cries of the children who do not have enough to eat. Keep your kleenex handy and be prepared to empty out your piggy bank and send the money to World Vision.

Lyrics

Feed Me, I'm Hungry

I live in Uganda; my country is a mess
No rain, no crops, no clothes to wear, political unrest.
I wish they hadn't killed my cow; she kept me alive.
I keep hopin' things'll get better, but I only see more strife.

My country is El Salvador; my mom and dad are dead.
Some men in green murdered them; they want my country red.
Me, I don't care which color; I only need some bread
To stop this awful gnawing and this pounding in my head.

Chorus: Feed me I'm hungry.
I need a bowl of rice; I'm hungry.
To keep me alive; I'm hungry
Oh Mister, please...I'm so hungry.

I used to live in Lebanon, don't know where I am now.
My mom and I keep runnin' but I really don't know how,
How we can keep on runnin' to escape the fiery blast
Will there be food in the next camp? I can no longer fast.

I'm from the hills of Haiti, my mom's eleventh child.
But six of us have died now; the other five run wild
To search the garbage heaps each day to find a bit of meat.
My daddy tries to work each day; he really wants to feed.....

I live in Somalia; the land is dead and dry.
I can't...find food...no matter how hard I try.
So I'll just lay my bag of bones down in this hunger line,
But I don't know if food will come; the truck was bombed last time.

Next time you say, "I'm hungry", my friend, please think twice.
Remember the starving who need a bowl of rice.
In Jesus' name, please give to them so they can stay alive.
You may not hear their thank you's, but they'll no longer cry:

I'm not a folk listener but love all music. This sounds theatrical.

Enjoyed your song very much, really like the lyrical content, very well done. The vocal and the instrumental spareness works very well for the style and the subject matter, very evocative. Nicely done!

Lyric tells the story real well and the vocal modulates up and down with the woes of the singer. Definitely sound as thought it was written for a stage production.

Lovely voice. Clear & precise. Interesting subject matter

A song packed full of message and political weight! Great vocal performance, honest and beautifully raw. Nice simple guitar wich gives the listener space to concentrate on the lyrics while the pathos rolls on underneath. This would work well at a rally or demo I would imagine , reminded me of Julie Felix a little, a good straight forward singer songwriter performance, thanks, I really enjoyed it.

WHAT A GREAT MESSEAGE KATE. you made the hair on my arms stand straight up and the second time through I had to get the tissue out. Your voice was perfect and when you sang feed me it was so feeling. I wanted to feed everyone. When we know we have the resources to feed everyone it is beyond me that we have the hungry even here. Well done Kate

Intense lyrics and vocal, pulls you in right away. Serious passion in the performance. The story told is as genuine and heartfelt as you will ever hear. The song is a masterful story, a stream of consciousness no less brilliant than a Bob Dylan, Bob Marley or Don Mclean song.

A good committed protest song.

a very tradtional folk song with a touch of spanish flavour with the guitar. very good theme and lyrics and performance and the vocals were great.
