The Road Less Traveled

Story Behind The Song

Robert Frost is one of my favorite poets. I admire how he describes the beauty of nature, and of the human experience with such eloquent simplicity. His most well known poem is probably "The Road Not Taken" - and for good reason. As we move along in life, and make more and more decisions, I think it is natural to wonder what might have happened if we had made some of our decisions differently. This is a story about someone wondering about just that. So I guess there's a little bit of a twist. Frost told us that taking the road less traveled "made all the difference." But here I guess I'm just trying to point out that going a different way is not always easy.

Song Description

An adventurous young guy leaves home to search the world for a perfect love (as a mariner). But after years slip by, he realizes that the only real love he ever found was back in his home town. And looking back, he wonders why he was careless enough to let her go.

The Road Less Traveled

By:Andrew Dasani

Verse I

Sarah was a girl I never should have met.
But somehow life brought her to me.
You see, the problem is I found her way too soon.
I wouldn't let myself believe that she was all I'd ever need. Because...

Chorus

I believed that love was waiting somewhere out there for me.
So I searched my way across a thousand seas
Until the day I fell down on my knees,
pleaded with the stars and asked them why
I had to take the road less traveled by.

Verse II

Everyone was sure that we would settle down.
But something wasn't right for me.
I thought the world too big to find, in this small town,
the woman who was meant for me.
But she was all I'd ever need. You see...

Verse III
It wasn't long before I made my choice and left.
The sadness in her eyes I can't forget.
I went down through the docks and said, "I'm going west!"
The Mate said, "Come on, boy," and we went.
The Captain said, "We'll roll eleven months a year..."
It's been eleven years and now I'm here.
I must have seen a million faces in that time.
But I knew only one was mine.
She was the one I'd left behind. Because...
