Sonic Abduction

Story Behind The Song

Keep the listener captured in the moment, unaware of the passage of time and interested on the evolving imagery. At the end of the song the idea is that when the listener takes notice of the time again that an effect of missing time is experienced. Musically I used a technique on the piano that I had been flirting with for the last few years, and that is chord dispersion. With my left hand I played an octave and with my right hand an octave, these two octaves formed a harmonic diad, regular chords are triads. These dispersed diads were the melody and rhythm during various parts of the song, so my left hand would go from playing a bass line and stride up to form the lower half of the four note dispersed diad where my right hand played the upper half along with traditional riffs. I liked the outcome and I liked getting piano back into a predominantly electronic work. This song was originally a 13 min improvisation to a repeating drum track, it just happened to be luck that I had the computer recording to capture the moment. Cant tell you how many have been lost to the moment. Tech notes: I used my K2000VP for the all of the sounds. I shifted through three setups during the live main track where I was playing bass keys along with rhythm keyboards, to a basic steady beat, all the while adjusting Controllers to sculpt the sounds in real time while playing bass keyboards. I finished it with supporting tracks, as well as hand played drums on the keyboard versus a sequenced drum beat.
