Story Behind The Song
Michelle Adams is a writer of books and articles. Michael Saltar owns an ad agency, and is a concert pianist. While working together in advertising, the idea of joining talents to write a song came up, with the theme of aiming high to reach one's dreams, and never giving up. Though Michael writes for full orchestra, he has ironically never written a pop melody (as his father--lead trombonist during the big band era for Tony Bennett, Liberace, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Frankie Avalon, Milton Berle--urged him to do). Michelle, on the other hand, has published a plethora of poetry, but never set anything to music. This is definitely a first for both.

Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Â
I laid in bed at night and wondered why
The dream inside my heart would not die.
It kept on growing, growing.
Â
Â
But every door was closed in front of me,
Still I wanted to believe
So I kept on going, going ...
Â
(Transition)
I wanted desperately to leave my past behind.
But I was scared of what I'd find....
Â
Chorus:
I dreamed this dream
So long ago.
I had to try. I had to know.
They laughed at me; How could they see?
The dream inside kept driving me.
And now I know,
The dream is real,
I'm walking through that open door.
I can't believe my time has come...
It was worth fighting for.
Â
Â
(Verse 2)
Â
So many times I gave up on myself.
Put my dreams upon the shelf,
Secret dreams dying, dying.
But you gave my dreams a place to live.
You gave them wings I couldn't give.
Suddenly I'm flying, flying ...
Â
(Bridge)
The dream was trapped inside; you set it free:Â
You unlocked the mystery of me
(Return to Chorus.)Â
