Song Description

A humorous, introspective look at musical prejudice and why I'm against it.

Story Behind the Song

After working for 5 years as a host for a combination DJ/Dance/Karaoke show which features all music genres, I have seen every type of musical prejudice. This song is my response to it.

THIS SONG AIN?T COUNTRY
(Written by: Michael H. Fuller ? October 11, 2004)
[recorded acapella - live with audience responses]
(chorus)
THIS SONG AIN?T COUNTRY
IT AIN?T ROCK & ROLL
I DON?T THINK IT?S HIP HOP
*(2) I?M PRETTY SURE IT?S NOT.. *(3) OK FINE, IT?S NOT..
IT MIGHT BE SOUL I DON?T KNOW
BUT IT SURE SOUNDS GOOD TO ME
SO I THINK I?LL JUST CLOSE MY EYES AND BREATHE
AND LET THE MUSIC TAKE ME
WHERE IT WANTS ME TO BE

I THINK SOME ROCK SONGS ARE COUNTRY
JUST WITH A DIFFERENT BEAT
AND WHILE I SURE DO LOVE REGGAE
WHAT?S ?RASTAFARIAN? MEAN?

AND POP SONGS ARE ? POPULAR
I GUESS THEY?RE ALRIGHT WITH ME
BUT WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
SOUL AND R&B?

(repeat chorus) *(2)

I LIKE PUNK ROCK AND HEAVY METAL
JUST TELL THE LEAD SINGER NOT TO HURT ME, PLEASE
AND RAPPERS ARE JUST INTRODUCING THEMSELVES
THEY?RE REALLY NICE FOLKS, I THINK

OHHH, AND COUNTRY AIN?T COUNTRY NO MORE
ASK ANY REDNECK YOU MEET
BUT IT?S ALRIGHT AS LONG AS YOU PRETTY IT UP
WITH A BELLYBUTTON RING

NO THE MUSIC?S NOT THE PROBLEM
IT?S THE PEOPLE, DON?T YOU SEE
I CAN?T LISTEN TO THAT CAUSE I DRESS LIKE THIS
COULD YOU JUST LIGHTEN UP, PLEASE?

AW HELL IT DON?T EVEN MATTER
IT?S NOT POLITICS OR THEOLOGY
SO PULL YOUR HEADS OUT YOUR ASSES
AND FIND THE MELODY

(repeat chorus) *(3)

YES, LET?S PULL OUR HEADS OUT OF OUR ASSES
AND FIND THE ME ? LO - DY
