Song DescriptionThis song is about the end of a love relationship and the feelings of the one left behind.
Story Behind the SongI first wrote this song about the break up of one of my love relationships. But originally the song was a fast tune. I was putting together the music for a show, some years later and was revisiting some of my tunes and re-worked this song as a ballad. As
Lyrics
You Never Said Goodbye
Music and Lyrics by Mary Ott Copyright 1990
Leavin? as you did,
I never had the chance.
Things were left unsaid,
I thought we were mid-dance.
Did I really misread all the cues?
I turned around
And you were on to someone new.
Chorus:
I?ll miss you in the cold of December.
I?ll miss you in the heat of July.
All I?m left with, are warm nights to remember,
Did you know,
You Never Said Goodbye?
Verse:
Now I would be the first one to say,
You have the right to leave
And have it, your own way.
There?s just one thing,
That I would like,
For you to know,
The love I have for you,
Will follow where you go.
Bridge:
Many walls divided us,
We were both afraid.
Who?s to say that given time,
You?d have chose to stay.
