Story Behind The Song
No real specific personal story as far as the lyrics are concerned. It is sort of an "Everyman" lament. We had toyed with the music, and a few lines from the chorus . . . especially the words, "and I'm stuck here in the middle of the night." Even before the song had a sense of story or direction, those words seemed to settle in quite nicely with the music which we had tentatively arranged for the chorus. So there was some sense of loyalty to those words . . . loyalty to the sound of the words mostly . . . and this provided the impetus for the rest of the lyrics. Frankly it fell together pretty fast. Surprisingly so.

Song Description
This song is about loneliness and loss, and is done is a vaguely Beatle-esque style. The singer is stuck in the "middle of the night," because she has lost her love . . . so the hours and minutes crawl like they never had before; and the evening shadows march across the floor introducing her to the constant night of loss.

Lyrics
Middle of the Night
Copyright 2003 by Bob Story and Dennis Wanebo
Verse One
The Hours and Minutes
Never Seemed
To Crawl Like this Before,
Back When I Had You
In my Life.
But All the Laws
Of Nature Changed
When You Stepped Out the Door,
And Placed Your Heart
Somewhere Just Out of Sight.
Chorus
I Learned Your Secrets;
You Learned My Lies.
Now It?s Too Late
To Make It Right.
I Got a Feelin?
That I?ll Never See the Light;
And That I?m Stuck Here
In the Middle of the Night.
Verse Two
It?s Hard to find the pieces
That I?ve Scattered all around,
When Evening Shadows March
Across my Floor.
Bridge
I Never Knew My Own Strength;
Cuz? I Can Stop the Moon In Flight,
And I Can Turn Off All of the Stars (above),
And Trade in My Days
For the Darkest Night . . . .
Chorus
You Shared Your Secrets;
I Shared My Lies.
Now It?s Too Late
To Make It Right.
I Got a Feelin?
That I?ll Never See the Light;
And That I?m Stuck Here
In the Middle of the Night.
Instrumental Break
Bridge
Double Chorus
You Shared Your Secrets;
You Learned My Lies.
And It?s Too Late
To Make it Right.
I Learned Your Secrets;
I Shared My Lies.
It?s Just Too Late
To Make it Right;
And I?m Stuck Here
In the Middle of the Night.
