Lyrics
THESE WEATHERED WOODS
by Gordon E. Ellis and Mark E. Ellis, 2018
(based on the poem, "I and the Woods," by Helen E. Ellis)
These weathered woods and I are friends.
Beneath their shel'tring limbs I've pondered long the timeless truths
They whisper on the winds.
I've climbed upon their boughs and leaned my ear against their skin.
I've hugged them close while listening to hear the heart within.
CHORUS: These weathered woods are friends to me,
For it is they who help me see
The lesson in each falling leaf
So I'll live this day gratefully.
These weathered woods and I are friends.
In every kind of mood, I've walked upon their fallen leaves
And made of them a bed
And there I dream my yearning dreams, and think anxious thoughts I dread.
They understand without a word the pond'rings in my head.
CHORUS
BRIDGE: Their answer is simple. Their answer is brief.
Their answer is final. It's a falling leaf.
And I - I understand... (Repeat 3 lines of verse 1, Chorus, and Bridge)
These weathered woods and I are friends.
Beneath their shel'tring limbs I've pondered long the timeless truths
They whisper on the winds.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
