I Do Now

Story Behind The Song

This was actually inspired by a business deal that went awry. The guy in the story was helping the woman design something. In her inexperience he became impatient & ended up coldly dropping her project. She knew she was inexperienced but still he didn't have to be a jerk about it. Afterall, she took in the learning & wrote a song to release the feelings.

Song Description

Looking back at a relationship where the woman is telling the guy how he did her wrong but noting that she was naive or inexperienced & may have contributed to his behavior. Still she is angry and at the end acknowledges both that she was inexperienced, but so was he, and she now knows better.

Lyrics

Oooh, I got something on my mind
Gouging me with guilty little thoughts
All the "coulda woulda shoulda" time gone by
All the "how I didn'ts" but "I oughts"

Well you met me in the middle of a sensitive time
And you helped through my riddle with your reason and rhyme
But you left me with a bitter taste, aftermath: no embrace
Could have had compassion

'Cause I didn't know what I was doing
I never learned somehow
I didn't know what I was doing
but oh-oh-oh

I liked the way you moved and all the things you said
I liked the way you studied my designs
I thought a little coziness would be ok
I guess I'm not so good at reading minds

I was juggling like shiva with my 22 arms
I was struggling to enchant you with my 32 charms
But you didn't want me anyway, you couldn't see, you
couldn't see...couldn't see me trying

'Cause I didn't know what I was doing
I never learned somehow
I didn't know what I was doing
but oh-oh-oh

Hey-o, hey-ya-hee-yay-yo-o

Someone ought to pick you up and set you down
Someone ought to rummage through your head
Someone ought to turn to you and turn around
And walk away from everything you said

As if you were something so special anyway
As if you were something so special anyway
As if you were something so....special...

Anyway, I didn't know what I was doing
Ok, that's true
I didn't know what I was doing
but neither did you
I didn't know what I was doing
I never learned somehow
I didn't know what I was doing
Oh-oh-oh-oh...
I do now
