Song Description

A song for those who have been "controlled" in a bad relationship. It urges them to take control back and get out while they can. We, as friends of people in those situations, need to reach out a hand to the victims

Story Behind the Song

I wrote this song after spending a day with The SOS Choir. They are an extra-ordinary group of women who have been touched, in the worst way, by domestic violence. We ate together and laughed and cried and sang together. I taught them an African song about freedom. It's hidden in this song that was inspired by these women. The title is an acronym Domestic Violence. Ours To Eliminate

Lyrics

DVOTE

Show us the way to freedom

CHORUS
Come on take my hand (take my hand)
It's time to walk away (just walk away) "freedom is in your hands"
I hope you understand (understand) "show us the way to freedom"
Hear what I say (hear what I say)
It just won't change (it's never gonna change)
You'll never be the same (you won't be the same)

VERSE
Listening to the sounds of a new day humming a song you don't really know
Try to sing along but your head feels numb. The cracks are beginning to show
Get on the highway with the window rolled down, the sunshine kissing your face
Follow the music, just keep on driving. Time to run away, time to run

CHORUS
VERSE
Give it one more day and it's the same old story. You heard it every day of your life
You're hearing "sorry it won't happen again". You're balanced on the edge of a knife

Before you lose yourself just walk out the door. You know that you're not alone
Follow the music, just keep on moving . Time to run away, time to run
