Story Behind The Song
Like many people, I have experienced divorce. Sadness, anger, guilt, frustration, loneliness, all were deeply lived before acceptance and healing occurred.
Song Description
Remaining, for a period of time after a divorce, to live alone in the house/home that was created by a married couple. The remaining person is surrounded by remnants ("ghosts") in the home from the loving times, long after the love has left. The house is full of articles but devoid of the love that created them, leading to intense feelings of loneliness, almost like being in prison or "exiled."

Lyrics
Exiled Written by Lindsay Martell
The autumn leaves have flown
You're kicking through them lonely
The rain will turn to snow
You miss your one and only
In your empty haunted house
The ghosts have all gone south
It's cold inside
You can run but you can't hide
There's a draft from the door
And a creaking wooden floor
You dream your dreams alone
Exiled down on Main Street
You're locked up, shut down and stoned
Exiled down on Main Street
And the trial just made you sick
Only dirty clothes to launder
It was over all too quick
No counsellors to ponder
The papers said it's fair
But the shackles that you wear
Like a lock on a door
That was never closed before
Or a ball and a chain
Rusting in the rain
You dream your dreams alone
Exiled down on Main Street
You're locked up, shut down and stoned
Exiled down on Main Street
And crime doesn't pay
You'll get locked away
In the jail of your mind
You will do hard time
And never get out
Even if you scream and shout
You're pacing the floor
You hear the silence roar
You dream your dreams alone
Exiled down on Main Street
You're locked up, shut down and stoned
Exiled down on Main Street
The dreamer dreams alone
Exiled down on Main Street
You're locked up, shut down and stoned
Exiled down on Main Street
