Story Behind The Song
I wrote this while at a friends camp. A butterfly played with me for about half an hour. It would land near me and when I reached out to touch it it would fly around the yard then return and we would do it all again. Pretty neat. Then early in the evening there must have been a thousand lightning bugs. If you double blink a flashlight at them they will come to you. That's where the idea of this song came from.
Song Description
I guess you could call it a kids song but there is deeper meaning.

Lyrics
Lightnin' Bugs and Butterflies
Verse:
Lightnin' Bugs and Butterflies
Live quite separate lives
One lives in the daytime
The other lives at night
There are things between them
They both see sometimes
One is the sunset
The other is sunrise
Chorus:
I hope I can learn from
Some of the things they do
I hope I can learn
To fly too
Verse:
Lightnin' Bugs and Butterflies
Don't know each others names
I don't think they've ever met
When they play their games
One flies to the sunlight
The other to the moon
I hope they both
Get there soon
Chorus:
I hope I can learn from
Some of the things they do
I hope I can learn
To fly too
Verse:
Lightnin' Bugs and Butterflies
Are part of my life
I hope I see 'em
All the time
Chorus:
I hope I can learn from
Some of the things they do
I hope I can learn
To fly too
I wish I could learn
To fly too
