Story Behind The Song

I wrote it about being on the road as a musician and leaving my family behind to go on tour. "Success" in the music industry often means that you are in demand as a live performer, and to be able to make money to take care of your family means being away from them much more than you'd like. It can be applied to any situation where you reach your idea of success, and you find that you've actually had to give up a lot to get there. In the end, you want to hang on to all the things you've valued - especially your loved one - but still reach your version of success.

Goals of fame, fortune, money, or success are very enticing, and we think that when we reach our goals, our lives will finally be perfect. But somewhere along the way, we are forced to give up things to reach those ultimate goals.
