Because of This Day

Story Behind The Song

As explained above, the song was originally my daughter's idea and was derived from a poem she had written for school.

Song Description

This song was written with the help of my two children, Ashley and Matthew, along with my husband, Rick. My dauther had written a poem for school titled "Because of This Day" and won a poem contest with it and has since had it published. I thought it would make a great song so we all sat down and used what we could of her poem and then added more detail to make the lyric more appealing. I think it touches on different things that are important to all of us in different ways. For instance, the small boy showing his new puppy to his friends. That was probably a very important and exciting thing for him while a man trying to rush his pregnant wife to the hospital was what was going on in his day. We each have different things going on in our life all the time. Also, I wanted to convey that "Being the best that we can be" is very different to all of us. The secretary is working late to try and get a raise while the alcoholic is trying desperately to make it through another day without a drink. Very different goals but both just important to each person. I wanted to end it on a personal note so I added the bridge to express how happy I am with my husband and waking up next to him each morning.

Lyrics

Because Of This Day

Because of this day
There are many things to do
Children sail their wooden boats along the river?s bank
And there?s a sidewalk musician who?ll play for what you pay
And a waitress serving breakfast at a small outdoor café
Out front there?s an old man shinin? shoes while you wait
Because of this day

Because of this day
There are many places to go
There?s a man jumpin? in a taxi cab whose wife?s about to give birth
And a woman at the bus stop diggin? change out of her purse
Two giggly girls are shopping for a night out on the town
As a small boy shows his friends the new puppy that he found
Because of this day

Because of this day
We?re tryin? to be all we can be
An eighth grade boy studies hard he wants to get all A?s
A secretary?s working late she really needs that raise
An old man struggles just to go all day without a drink
While a doctor?s trying hard to find a cure for his disease
Because of this day

Because of this day
I?ll wake up by your side
And gaze upon your sleeping face
feeling so alive
I?m blessed to have the kind of love so many are denied
Because of this day

Spoken Tag: Because of this day
The sun will set below the horizon
And make a new day
