Each night at bedtime when I was a kid
There was something special my mom always did.
She?d give a kiss on my cheek, and one on my palm
Then tuck me into bed and sing this little song.

As time went by, I got too old for my mothers bedtime song
A wife and kids and a job all came as the years, they sped along
We?d read a bedtime story to the kids at each days end.
I guess I just forgot the way mom always tucked me in.

Then came the day at the hospital, standing by her side
She tried hard not to show it, but there was too much pain to hide
When it was time to say goodbye, I kissed her cheek
Then I kissed her on her palm as I struggled just to speak.

As I held her hand, ...she breathed her last
I thought of how ...life goes so fast
That night when I ...tucked my kids in
