Song Description

Blues song about a traveling blues singer.

Story Behind the Song

On a trip to Savanah, I had the opportunity to sit and listen to a remarkable street performer. The song came from that experience.

Excellent Acoustic guitar and harmonica/

    - Fred Kimmel

I love to open air sound of the recording, brings the song blues cred. Nice guitar accompaniment. Very good vocal and a great harmonica solo cap off this gem.

    - Dave Haddad (CenterPeace)

Willy's got an old Gibson, he carries from town to town
He plucks at an old Gibson when he rolls into town
Lord have mercy, he can sure enough put them blues down

He'll play you a tune just put a dollar in his case
He'll play you a worried man blues just put a dollar in his case
There is a heart breakin' story in every single line on his face

Willy, he ain't homeless, he's a grown man of the road
He says he ain't homeless, he's a traveling man on the road
Willy says his freedom is more precious than any fine silver or gold

Every song he's written is about love gone wrong
Every song he's written is about how he ain't strong
Willy would tell you but it would just take too long

Her Christian name was Mary, but she was a wild as fire
Her Christian name was Mary, she set his poor heart on fire
Stole all his money, broke his heart, now he says he's preaching to the choir

It's that same ole story, songs about love and losing
It's that same ole story, songs about love and losing
Willy would explain it but Lord, it just too damn confusing
Sure is - can't make - heads or tails of it all.
