Story Behind The Song
A friend of mine, a gifted musician, was consuming a 12-pack of beer and bong hits galore every night for the last 6 months I was living with him. He'd get wasted and start talking about how he was a genius the likes of Bach and Mozart, and it was all very amusing for a while, until it became a bit worrisome. During the day he was agitated, impatient and nasty, not to mention paranoid. The gentle friend I once knew was becoming a self-aggrandizing egoist and sad and judgemental at the same time. He had friends who put up with him like an employee puts up with his megalomaniacal boss. I was sure this phase of his would pass, but I wrote this song just in case it didn't.

You are a creative, wonderful person, but your addictions are catchng up with you. I don't recognize you anymore, though we've been friends for a long time. I try to keep you grounded, but it seems you're on a self-destructive pattern, and you're not interested in what I have to say, so I'll hang around for now, like a groupie, but I'll leave when I can't take it anymore
