This happened to me on 12/4/98 in Union Square. Everything in the song is a depiction of my walk that day. I was very lonely that afternoon and was dearly missing my girlfriend - even though she was only 60 blocks away. but if felt like a million miles.

Lyrics
Took a walk in Union Square
They were selling holly by the bunches
It was 21 days 'til Christmas time
There's a woman taking vintage clocks
And turning them into books
It was time for me to read strange fruit again
The sunlight cast an amber spell
The city was alive with the 9-5ers out on lunch
For a sunny day in winter
I strolled on through to Irving Place
Had myself a hot dog and chat with a man
While we squinted in the sunshine
These days are just like any other day
Just like any other day
I was hoping to bump into an old friend
So she'd tell me how I'd grown, notice how I'd changed
Sometimes you need a reminder like that
I never notice when the changes are happening
These days are just like any other day
Just like any other day
When I'm not with you
God, what would I do if I didn't have you?
God, what will I do when I'm without you?
Took a walk in Union Square
They were selling holly by the bunches
It was 21 days 'til Christmas time
