Muscle + Rod

Story Behind The Song

In gay culture, especially, gay males, I have discovered that within my community we do no have a role model who teaches us how to treat each other with respect. No one has ever said, "Boys treat your man like a gentlemen" in regards to relationships or even one night stands. Although something like this would inherently be like second nature: treat others with respect. However, you'd be surprised how often in gay culture we have our own double standards. As men we already know that it is a man's world, but I have found that we sometimes forget on our hunt for lust, we are potentially on a path of destruction. In the LGBTQ community we have a responsibility to teach our youth how to respect each other. "Respect yourself, express yourself, you're born this way. These are not just mantras for the ladies." This song is for those who believe in the worth of another human being.

Lyrics

Muscle + Rod
Lyrics by Joey Broyles

I am not really that pretty
We're dancing in Vampire City

Oh my god there's a man here and he's gonna make me feel so good
He's holding me on the dancefloor and he's sending me right into outer space
I raise my hands above my head
He's takin off my shirt
He looks at me like I am dead
I guess my feelings are hurt

Yeah you are beautiful
You won't return my calls
'Cause all you know is your ugly soul

CHORUS:
All you've got is your muscle + rod
And you think, think, think that you are a god
But when ya take, take, take that away
Absolutely no substance, babe
All you've got is your pretty face
And you think, think, think you've got style and grace
But when you take, take, take that away
Absolutely no substance, baby

Like a god I should pray to, you expect me down on my hands and knees
I'm the prey on the dancefloor and your mouth is watering like a savage beast
Your hunter eyes are on me now
Devour a piece of me
I am more than just a man underneath your sheets

Yeah, you are beautiful
You could be made from gold
But all you show is your ugly soul

(CHORUS)

Respect yourself, express yourself, you're born this way
These are not just mantras for the ladies
Respect yourself, express yourself, you're born this way
These are not just mantras for the ladies
Boys, treat your man like a gentlemen
We don't need any kind of reputation
Boys, treat your man like a gentlemen
We don't need any kind of reputatioN
Don't think you get respect just because you're a man
And don't think you'll get respect, you are just a man

(CHORUS)

(CHORUS)

Absolutely no
Absolutely no
Absolutely no substance, baby
