Song Description

Finger-picked guitar accompanies a song about an older guy who seduces young girls away from home for the first time. He gets some good advice in the last verse, but probably won't listen.

Story Behind the Song

Every college town has guys that hang around waiting for the new crew of seventeen-year-old girls to show up on campus every year. This one is Madison WI specific because not all student unions have a bar in them.

Lyrics

Bobby loves this town, Came here for the university, stayed for the girls, He hangs out at the Union, doin 12 ounce curls, Classes end, they come in, with their cute little trendy clothes, Bobby musta watched a million of those after-school tableaus, He likes to meet 'em in the afternoon, then he's got a chance, Have a little bite to eat, talk em into goin out to dance, And all those little girls just love to dance, Bobby says that's the best way o' getting in their pants, He doesn't mind buyin them a couple beers, And there's a brand-new crop every year.
Bobby loves this town, He always goes for the younger ones, they fall for all his lines, They're not too good at drinkin yet, so he buys them a couple a wines, Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker, he learned that from Ogden Nash, He says it doesn't hurt a thing to get em kinda smashed, You think college girls are smart, Bobby says fiddlesticks, He's been doin this for years and they still fall for his tricks, Sure they're ticked when they wake up the next day, But Bobby's long gone, doesn't hear a word they say, And he's got another souvenir brassiere, And there's a brand new crop every year
Bobby loves this town, II said, Bobby, why don't you get a real job, using your degree, Buy a house, settle down, maybe join the bourgeoisie, Bet you could find one real good woman you can keep, Forget this string of little girls, they all think you're a creep, I point out, you're getting grey, and you've had your fun, Bobby says, there's so many pretty girls, Jim, how can I keep just one, He doesn't even see himself goin downhill, Long as he can score I guess he will, He likes livin cavalier, And there's a brand new crop every year, Bobby loves this town
