New Mexico

Story Behind The Song

I traveled to Taos, New Mexico in the fall of 2007 on a business trip. Like most American's, I had an elaborate plan of vacationing and didn't leave any time to really experience the town. Every day was packed so full of fun and excitement that I missed the culture of the village. "New Mexico" is about a guy that travels by plane and bus to the amazing artist village of Taos for a vacation of luxury, until he loses his wallet. Having no money, he decides to "go with the flow" and enjoy Taos, in all its beauty. He fishes for his food and hangs out with the locals. At the end of the day he finds what discovering community is all about. Think about it. Every place you've ever visited is someone's home. Is it possible that we've missed out on the most important part of vacationing? The next time you travel, try experiencing what it's really like to live there!

Lyrics

I took a plane southwest the other day
Then rode a bus through the wide open plains
Then up the mountains to the valley south
Thought I found heaven in a place called Taos
New Mexico, Ooo...
I lost my wallet rafting on the Rio
I had no money so I got my rod and reel
Laid down to fish that quiet afternoon
Woke up to coyotes laughing at the moon
In New Mexico, Ooo...
Tucked away in my heart
Is a town that I've been missin'
Where my plans fell apart
So I spent the day fishin'
I slept under the stars
And heard the mourning doves kissin'
In a valley called Taos
New Mexico, Ooo...
Wandered through town, in and out of galleries
Saw works by Foster and some guy named R.C.
I met some locals who invited me along
To The Adobe where we sang a few songs 'bout
New Mexico, Ooo...
Tucked away in my heart
Is a town that I've been missin'
Where my plans fell apart
So I spent the day fishin'
I was moved by the art
And the locals reminiscin'
In a valley called Taos
New Mexico, Ooo...
In 1540 when Alvarado came
Thought he found gold, thought he found fame
But it was Taos shining in the sun
So he turned back and missed out on all the fun of
New Mexico, Ooo...
Tucked away in my heart
Is a town that I've been missin'
Where my plans fell apart
So I spent the day fishin'
I slept under the stars
And heard the mourning doves kissin'
In a valley called Taos
New Mexico, Ooo...
