Story Behind the Song

We tried to kayak the Peace River one summer and were told it was shut down - the water was ten feet above normal. Ten feet?? When we did go later, we saw the cliffs on either side of us with the high water marks - this is Florida, we don't have cliffs. Abandoned staircases collapsing up them, edges of cow pastures right against gators lying in the reeds.

Oh to get you your gas
You gotta pull up to the dock there
Never seen a station hanging off the side of a riverbed
Til I floated way down here
Inside she got skulls and arrowheads aimed straight at my claws
All she'll sell is smoke and blood
Says her spells across the swamp

You're my Peace River priestess

Ten feet up from the rocks the river floods
Sand on the hillside burns into dust
And the tree up above is like four hundred trees in one
Every single root is on fire from the water on down
Every single root is on fire from the water on down

You're my Peace River priestess
