Story Behind The Song
I got the inspiration for this song a few weeks ago while cycling along a 2000-year-old country lane near my home in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, UK. The sun was shining, the countryside was fresh and new and I thought to myself: "It just doesn't get any better than this!" There are loads of songs about how bad life can be (hey, I've written more than a few myself!) but I just wanted to express the peace, tranquility and sheer joy I was feeling.
Song Description
There are some fantastic places all over this planet, and each season can bring its own delights, but the English countryside on a beautiful summer's day is up there with the best of them. The lush green vegetation is a sight for sore eyes.

[CHORUS}
But England in May! England in May
The lilac, laburnum and hawthorn's array
Oh and I have never seen
So many shades of green in
The fields and the forests
The lanes and the byways
The hills and the valleys
Of England in May
While Autumn's palette of fiery hues
Can chase away your blues
And shake your soul wide awake
And Winter's monochromatic display
Of a snow clad mountain range
Seems like the icing on the cake
The thrill of a landscape reborn
You'll find only in the beautiful dawn, of an...
[CHORUS}
But England in May! England in May
The lilac, laburnum and hawthorn's array
Oh and I have never seen
So many shades of green in
The fields and the forests
The lanes and the byways
The hills and the valleys
Of England in May
