Song Description

Man kills the entity responsible for love and falling in love only to discover that love-at-first-sight exists, indeed, even if it only between a man and a car, or pick-up, in this case. I still own the pick-up.

Story Behind the Song

I had a nastier divorce than marriage, but aside from the obvious, I fell in with some guys and we recorded this in one take with one mic in my home studio. The percussion is played with my office desk and a glass of water for drums. I think I added one midi crash and about half a second from Tom Sawyer here and there throughout the song. I dubbed in the second chorus because I dropped the paper I was finishing writing the song on while we began recording. I think I was having trouble juggling it and the harp I was playing.

Lyrics

I Shot Cupid

Well I told the little fat man
don't even try
if I ever fall in love again, then,
He's gonna die
I saw him sneaking around the alley
just yesterday
but when I saw him up in the trees above me
he was coming down the hard way.

I gave him a 10 second start (uno, dos, ...)
to flitter away. (... tres, quatro, sinko)
I counted to 5 and then
told him to pray
February 14 comes around here again
we will be celebrating the day
without him.

I'm locked and loaded
We got each other's back.
No sneaky little cherub
with arrows on his back
is gonna shoot me full of Lovesmack.
I ain't going down with another
Heart Attack.

So I shot Cupid
Right between the eyes
I believe he's finished
shootin me with his kies
You'll find him face up in the alley,
he's got X's for eyes
You can follow your nose
or you can follow the flies.

Without warning it happened
but this couldn't be
noway Babyface made it
through security
but I know the feeling and I couldn't deny
It was love at first sight
I thought love was a lie.
But when I lay in her bed
and look at the sky,
I wonder hwo cupid
came back to life
why he bothered to grant me the
Pwrfect wife
I have to admeit
I'm still with her today
cause she really puts out
I mean what I say
first night on the town
we went all the way

We'll be together forever
forever and a day
She's my '63 long-bed stepside Chevrolet
Sometimes the sex burns but that's ok.
My three quarter ton, four on the floor
Chevrolet
