Song Description

Song reveals subtley that Iron Head Jimmy is a head trauma victim who is "escaping" the monotony of his life and heading out on the road with his hound dog, "the only girl he could trust." Should that be illegal?

Story Behind the Song

totally made up.

By Greg Young, 2005

Iron Head Jimmy did the Oklahoma shimmy
and he left in a cloud of dust.
He had a sack full of money and his hound dog, Honey,
the only girl he could trust.

And he took back roads and he hit pot holes
and he drove with the windows down
and he listen to Folsom Prison Blues
as he drove from town to town.

Just searching for a destination
everybody needs a little space,
Holding out for salvation,
just looking for a hiding place

Well lights went to flashing, a siren was a blasting,
Jimmy had a panic attack
When the cop leaned in he said with a grin,
"Hey what you got in that sack?"

Jimmy couldn't speak. Honey sprung a leak
and the whole thing came unwound.
They took Jimmy in for questioning
and threw Honey in the pound.

They got ahold of Jimmy's lawyer.
She told 'em all about Jimmy's wreck.
That eighteen wheeler nearly killed him
Now every month he draws a check.
Been saving that money for years.
Must be a millionare

Well the sherriff came in and said with a grin,
"Now son you can go in peace."
Jimmy hit that door like a troubadour
singing "I Shall Be Released"

He took back Honey and all of his money
and they asked him where he'd go.
He said "I'm going down to New Orleans,
or maybe Mexico."
