Story Behind The Song
"Suzannah" tells the tale of a bad relationship ending badly. I altered the story a bit to make the song work better?but it?s still basically true, complex, and painfully sad. I?ve always held that in a breakup it?s at least as hard for the one leaving as for the one being left.
Song Description
A gently lilting ballad with some light yet insistent percussion reminiscent of Hall & Oates' "One On One". Sad and etheric.

Lyrics
Suzannah
look through the glass darkly
there will be a picture there
a splendid illusion
in pieces on the ground
it used to fly so high
a God-given promise
now all that remains is
a singer with no sound
and I remember the days she sang to us
with a voice so rich and clear
alas, she?s no longer here
she?s raining down tears from the sky
why, why, why?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
you don?t know what you do to you
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
what happened to the girl I knew?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
we all loved the Goddess
we gave her our courage
and when came the demons
cheered ?don?t give up the fight?
but soon were too many
who envied her power
oh Suzannah,
how dare they just darken out your light
we were so ready to receive of your blessing
how I?ll miss your gentle soul
but you jumped down a hole
for some rabbit reason why
why, why, why?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
you don?t know what you do to you
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
what happened to the friend I knew?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
you don?t know what you do to you
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
what happened to the girl I knew?
where is, where is Suzannah?
where is, where is Suzannah?
I listen for siren songs
wishing at my window
could that be you singing
or is it just the wind
or might I hear you in the kiss of this evening
with sweet jasmine all around
has Suzannah yet found
her voice and her reasons why
why, why, why?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
you don?t know what you do to you
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
what happened to the friend I knew?
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
goodbye, goodbye Suzannah
