Lyrics
I?m Confused
Music and lyrics by Eddie Pollock
In the beginning, God put us in paradise
To tend His beautiful garden, to keep it lovely and nice.
?But don?t eat fruit form this tree,? He said with the sternest look in His eye,
?For then you?ll know good and evil, and consequently, you?ll die.?
Of course we?ve all eaten from it; our knowledge is deep and broad.
The insight helps us with this life, and separates us from God.
So why put temptation within paradise?
And is knowing evil from good really such a vice?
I?m confused.
Here we are in the middle of how our lives have evolved.
We piece together this puzzle and hope that it can be solved.
Like do we keep the commandments, or will we be saved by grace?
Does God bless just a few of us, or love the whole human race?
What determines our future? Are we allowed to choose?
Who decides if it?s joy I sing, or another verse of the blues?
When will we really know what to expect?
And is what we?re doing here half way correct?
Why do children get sick? And why do good guys suffer?
Why do people live their lives just to make life tougher?
Why to people stay poor? And why do people tell lies?
Why so many whys when the one you treasure and prize
Cries, or dies?
I am so, so confused.
So in the end what?s important is not the question we raise.
It?s not the odd contradictions that keep us running this maze.
It?s faith that questions have answers, and faith that life can be great;
Faith that love will extinguish all evil, sorrow and hate.
That we?re all created for heaven is what we have to believe,
And when we?re next in that garden, there?ll be no reason to leave.
So store up your treasures in heaven above,
And when it?s your time to be loved or to love,
Don?t be confused.
