Song Description

The young girl thinks her daddy isn't paying attention to her. She meets an old guy that talks her into sneeking out her bedroom window to meet him so he can show her real love. He brings a blanket and a bottle of booze to loosen her up and promises to go slow as her takes her innocence, but before he does, she hears footsteps in the wood and hears her daddy so no you won't take advantage cause daddy's been watchen'. He takes his daughter home and she is happy to know that her daddy loves her and protects her even when she thinks he isn't paying attention.

Story Behind the Song

This song took 2 years to reach where it is now. First it was about a terrorist with a bomb in a vest, but the song was too explist to really be used. Then on the advise of Tom Pick in Nashville, we rewrote the lyrics mainly by Donna Cristy and she sang the new version and turned it into a country hit.

Broadjam Member Reviews

classic country, very today vibe to old themes. like the slide guitar allot. lead vocal suits song well. harmony vocal is VERY NICE in the bridge! best part of the song musically!

    - Warren Hein

almost has a Sugarland vibe to the vocals with that traditional southern twang. the bridge really swept me away - very unexpectedly awesome melodic change

Lyrics

Daddy Don't Know

Night is weighing heavy like a blanket on my wet skin
Waiting for his message makes me breathless gonna meet him
Daddy's on the front porch hypnotized by TV
Ain't got a clue what's really going on with me
Slipping out my bedroom window yeah but Daddy don't know
Ready to commit a sin yeah but Daddy don't know

Tearing through the backwoods heading for the river
Jake is standing there he brought his promise to deliver
Mama ran away the day I's turning thirteen
Three years I been running on my own steam
Asked him once why Mama left us but Daddy don't know
Looks like I'm about to get some but Daddy don't know

Mm mm mm Daddy don't know mm mm mm

Sweetheart kiss love whispers in my ear
What's that is that footsteps that I hear
He said relax gonna make it easy take it real slow
Ain't nobody gonna see us your Daddy don't know

Jake has worked my sundress dripping past my shoulders
He knows what to do I'm gonna trust him cuz he's older
Brought a blanket and a bottle make me looser
Heard a voice saying you're not about to use her
Get your hands off my daughter boy you better go
Little girl you're such a fool thinking your Daddy don't know

All right Daddy put your shotgun down let's go home
