Absent Friends

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this just after my father passed away. I have done numerous versions of it, but I like this one best...he was Scottish (hence the quote from the Skye Boat Song...)and a sailor (hence the water imagery) but most of all, he was my Dad.

Song Description

The song is about saying goodbye to someone while we can- while they are still alive. Things move quickly: people are taken away or die suddenly without warning. Life is fragile and fleeting and we must keep that in mind with in all of our relationships.
