Story Behind The Song
One night my wife ended an argument by saying, "You never hear a word that I say!" As I was sitting on the couch (after she went to bed) I noticed all the things I COULD hear (like the faint whistle of a train) and felt a bit convicted. Then I wrote this song in about ten minutes.

Lyrics
Two A.M. says the clock on the wall
And I can't sleep at all
We talked for hours but still feel the same
I should take the blame
Words dissolve like cotton candy in your mouth
When conversation turns south
I can hear the whistle of a train far away
But I never hear a word that you say
Now you're asleep but the light is on
And I can see that I was wrong
Though I sit with these headphones on
And numb my conscience with a song
Pride always comes before a fall
And when I think I'm standing tall
I know every line in the songs that I play
But I never hear a word that you say
Well, you're in there and I'm out here
Pretending I don't care
I wish I'd listened to what you said
Instead of losing my head
I guess I don't have to stay here alone
With my heart like a stone
I can hear the whisper of the break of day
But I never hear a word that you say
No, I never hear a word that you say
