Disappear

Story Behind The Song

The song represents a fictional story of a man who is about to be put in jail for unjustifiable reasons - crimes he didn't commit. The words of the chorus are the words the man says to his lover as he's about to serve his jail time. He hopes his love won't leave him after he has to leave her. The sirens in the chorus reflect on the man's thoughts of escape from prison, running for the one he loves. The verses reflect on the fact that every word the man says, has no effect on the final verdict of his prison time, despite his innocence: "You've lost the confidence to speak, as your heart, it barely beats, you don't know why." The mass of voices echoing draw comparisons to the choir of voices and confusion that he goes through himself. I would like to think that it can be taken a bunch of different ways though.

Song Description

The song starts with a slow build of echoing voices, that merges into a synth, rising and falling into a pop verse. The chorus and bridge of the song draw strongly from the themes of the intro, and the song ends with a strong chorus, full voiced in octaves with 4 part harmony and a siren that builds tension all the way down to the cutoff of the piece.

Lyrics

Now I feel you
Under my skin

What would you do
If it your lake ran dry?
You've lost the confidence to speak
Your heart, it barely beats, you don't know why

But this hell
You're in
Doesn't mean the end

And I'll tell
You're friend
You're on your way to go

So talk to me like it's your last night
And run to me like I'm all your life
But please
Don't disappear

What would you say
If it overflowed?
All your thoughts spill from the brim
And fall like poison on your skin
Your weakness shows

But this hell
You're in
Doesn't mean the end

But I'll tell
You're friend
You're on your way to go

So talk to me like it's your last night
And run to me like I'm all your life
But please
Don't disappear

Talk to me
Run to me

So talk to me like it's your last night
And run to me like I'm all your life
But please
Don't disappear
