Story Behind The Song
This song was inspired out of rage for being taken advantage of by booking agents.
A friend and I had worked hard to get a large number of people to show up for a concert in Philadelphia, allowing us a 30 minute time slot with multiple other artists. They overbooked, assuming people would back out, but with everyone there that they booked, they dropped the time to 15 minutes. Promising that the band that sold the most tickets would get the most time, we were supposed to get 20 minutes as opposed to 15. Instead, all the other bands played the 30 minute sets they came prepared with, leaving us with only time for 3 songs to play as told by the sound technician. We hated seeing friends come all this way just to hear 3 songs from us. After that night, we got home with a musical idea. I asked Jake "what should this be about." and immediately we agreed on booking agents.
Song Description
A song with very strong hits, contrasting with silence in the beginning, leading into a verse, calling out the faults of booking agents. The chorus is very forward moving with multiple layers of electric guitar and vocal harmonies as well as a double time contrast from the verse. The bridge symbolizes having our dignity taken away from agents, left with only our core (the drums), until we recover with our full sound (bass, drums, guitar, vocals).

Lyrics
I thought I had the talent to speak
But I was beat
By your impatience
That had left me feeling so unsure
I called it off, fingers crossed
But I lost, and tossedWas the dream that was an ember
Somewhere in my heart to burnBut these failings
Are only signs that I need to reach
For the underlying shots of passion
That happen in places I can't see
You make me feel so used
But I'll show you what I'm worth
You used me like a tool
Before you heard me say...
Before you heard me
I would always hopeThat I'd have the talent to face the challenge
Erase the pallet
Of distracting colors in my way
All I need is black and white
Just give me pen and paper
And in a night
I'll have a lot to say
But these failings
Are only signs that I need to reach
For the underlying shots of passion
That happen in places I can't see
You make me feel so used
But I'll show you what I'm worth
You used me like a tool
Before you heard me say...
Before you heard me
