Story Behind The Song

This came out of my recognition that I had been in a pattern of trying to believe in illusions in order to make myself feel better for a time. This was especially true in relationships. When I finally acknowledged it in myself, those around me, and ultimately in our North American culture, I wanted to write something that would reflect that feeling of wanting to hide behind these things.

Song Description

It is about the things we choose to believe when we know they aren't true. We often want to believe that a bad relationship will change and work out for the better, believe that what we see on TV is what we should aspire to because everyone on TV is happy and fulfilled. The truth is that those are illusions that seem easier to believe than facing the reality of loneliness or change or our own failures.
