Rain Dance

Story Behind The Song

I grew up in Africa, the son of missionaries. My friends were other kids like me. Now I've left my home to go to college, and my friends are scattered all across the US, from Georgia to Texas to Indiana, and everywhere in between. It was a hard life to give up, and they were hard goodbyes to say. I hope for the hand of time to cross our paths again, one day. And eventually, for God to bring me back out there, across the sea.

Song Description

The rain that calls represents the memory of another life. Life in Africa, specifically. And the memory of old friends. It's a song of fond memory and a song of longing. And a song of hope, for the rebirth of that life, the renewal of those friendships. Not the return to the same life, but perhaps another chance to be together with the same friends... and who knows, perhaps in the same place, or similar, once again.

Lyrics

It's cold outside, it's storming up again, the wind blows up and in my eyes, I try to hide my thoughts from the wind, it stirs my mind again

and the rain calls my name, i can feel the rain calling my name, to bring me back to warmer days, to where the rain calls my name

i close my eyes and yesterdays gone by return through time to life again, to share a smile, to listen to our lives, to walk in the dream

and the rain calls....

i close my eyes and i can feel the memories washing over me, the thunder rolls and lightning crashes, like children running endlessly, suspended out of time to be alone together honestly, the world stands still to watch and see, to soak it in and be set free again

they say some things are just too good to last, i guess that's why this had to end, but perfect dreams remind me of the past, could this be meant to be again

and the rain calls...

can you feel the rain? it's calling to you, can you feel the memories carrying you? can you feel the rain? it's calling you too, can you follow the memories leading you back to me?

can you feel the rain?
