Wishful Thinkin

Story Behind The Song

When I was single I would go to Honky Tonks and when the mood was right and the right song was playing and the right girl was there, it was an overwhelming feeling that I tried to put into words in this song.

Song Description

A country boy see a country girl he knows in a honky tonk they frequent. He's danced with her before but there's something different this time. He's not sure what it is that's different. He wonders if it's all just because he's had a beer or two. He notices that she is acting differently too. The music is just right, her movement is just right. Now he wonders if it's because she's been drinking. He hopes it not all because of his wishful thinking.

Lyrics

I've seen you here before
We've danced a time or two
Tonight it's not the same
There's a feelin that is new
Is it the music the band is playin

There's a sparkle in your eyes
A glow upon your face
You're holdin me so tight
Is this a dance or an embrace
And I like the way your body's swayin

(Chorus)
Am I seeing in your eyes
What I'm feelin in my heart
Am I feelin in your touch
We'll never be apart
Or is it just that I've been drinkin

Your every move and every shrug
You know that I adore it
And now I am asking you
Do you think we can explore it
Or is it just my wishful thinkin
(End Chorus)

Darlin' let me know if it's wishful thinkin
(music)

My heart is running scared
It skipped a beat or two
My head is spinnin round
With all these thoughts of you
I'm drowning in a warm ocean

Why are you trembling in my arms
Why can't I catch my breath
You can't find the words to say
I know I'm scared to death
and I'm overwhelmed by these emotions

(Chorus)
Am I seeing in your eyes
What I'm feelin in my heart
Am I feelin in your touch
We'll never be apart
Or is it just that you've been drinkin

Your every move and every shrug
You know that I adore it
And now I am asking you
Do you think we can explore it
Or is it just my wishful thinkin
(End Chorus)

Darlin let me know if it's wishful thinkin

And I pray it's not just my wishful thinkin
