Christmas in town

Song Description

While he has the warmth and peace of simple family Christmas, the lights and excitement of the city is something like being in love with a movie star. You know you could never live that life, but it sure is exciting for a while.

Lyrics

We got sleigh rides through the countryside at night,
and chestnuts by the fire seems so right.

But when the lights are low and the folks have settled down,
I gotta pack up my pickup and head off into town.

Where I can take in the sights; the Holiday lights are so pretty,
or shop in the stores; there's always one more in the city,

or just watch the snow falling down; this country boy's found, there's nothing like Christmas in town.

While the kinfolks stringin' popcorn on the tree,
and grandma's rockin' babies on her knee.
There's a peaceful country Christmas in my heart, while I'm hopein' that ol' pickup truck will start.
So I can shake Santa's hand while a Salvation band plays on main street.
I feel the rhythmic beat from the cars in the street, down to my feet,
and I dance around like a clown,
to the hustlin', bustlin' magic of Christmas in town.

I tip my hat to the city; she winks at me with her lights.
We share an intimate secret,
on this the most Holy of nights...

I just can't deny my country roots,
so Santa, don't forget my cowboy boots.

If I can start up my pickup, I'm packed up ready to leave,
But you can bet I'll see ya'all next Christmas Eve.

Now the folks with reserve, would say I deserve some pity.
Being country is cool, but I'm just a fool for the city,
when she wears her Christmas night gown,
I look around, there's nothing like Christmas in town.

I look around, there's nothing like Christmas in town.

This a cool country flavored Christmas song. I like the traditional country seasonings on this "dish". The slide guitar and violin parts add just the right amount of taste. The vocal is authentic and original. And with lyrics like: "If I can start up my pickup, I'm packed up ready to leave, But you can bet I'll see ya'all next Christmas Eve"... ya gotta love that country-flavored message! And the bridge and modulation lift the tune towards the end. Very nice!

Love the easy swagger this song has. Nice organization and dreamy fiddle. Love this clean mix as well. Surprize chord change!
Well Done!

The recording has a very nice sound and fun arrangement.

A jolly, lilting Christmas jingle song. I want to sing it for Christmas. It is great. Love the singing, love, love the music and the arrangement. Should become popular and take its place with the usual, traditional Christmas songs.

nice swinging feel and engaging chorus.

Nice christmas time tune! The steel guitar is a great touch. Great vocalist.

What a nice country Christmas song!

This is a smashing piece, full of great playing and 'atmosphere'. The vocalist has a great country voice and sounds very experianced and the band are superb. The instrumentation is just about right with the added bonus of a good 'fiddle' player and slide guitarist

very good job
