Story Behind The Song
I channeled Adam Duritz while writing this song. He has such a way with symbolism - relating pictures and objects to feelings - making combinations we normally wouldn't make. I had his line "dress me up in pink and white" in my head, then turned it into "pink with pearls" and then "pink" took on the meaning of life, and "pearls" took on the meaning of wisdom.

Lyrics
VERSE:
Sit me down ? a frown upon my only face
Scumble me out until you?ve colored me a better way
Better way
I?ve been passing by your place
Watching beauty walk out
So afraid to bring my case
So afraid to test your power
CHORUS:
But can you paint me PINK WITH PEARLS
VERSE:
Lay me out and quicken as you chip away
Christen with pounding till I finally break
Outside my own decay
Have you ever dreaded light
At the end of crying
I?ve been desperate for this fight
But settled safe inside my hiding
CHORUS:
But can you paint me PINK WITH PEARLS
BRIDGE:
I?m sick of dying
Can you paint me with the pinkest of life
I won?t steal
But I won?t be slighted
Paint me perfect pearls
Make me wise, make me wise
VERSE:
Send me out ? a smile upon my only face
The artist takes ? but as the artist paints the artist gives away
