Song Description

This song presents the contrast of our lives, growing/learning/living through things or the opposite. A home-recorded vocal+guitar demo.

Story Behind the Song

Wrote this one early this year, just thinking about contrasts as the nature of the beast. The phrase "weathering or withering" wrapped itself around the melody and a song was born.

Lyrics

It's a funny thing about laughter and luck.
Eventually both their numbers come up,
but somewhere between the beastly and the beautiful things,
you might find a fresh, warm cup of meaning.

It's hidden in places you forgot to look,
like a photo tucked in between the pages of an old, old book.
Yet it's a shame when your mind brings to host
the notions you grew up fearing most.

It's weathering or withering, you're always stuck between the two.
It's all, it's all that we can do.
While, while we're passing through.

You can wait your whole damn lifetime for that perfect moment,
and suddenly you're drawing a last breath of regret.
Yes, some of the nicest guys never finish last,
but all their good fortune seems to slip so fast...like they never had it.

It's weathering or withering, you're always stuck between the two.
It's all, it's all we know to do.
As, as we're passing through.

I snagged my soul on barb wire just the other day,
as I've done so many times along this wandering way of mine.
Just waiting on them stars to shine,
oh, come hellfire or holy water, them stars are gonna shine.
Yeah, I'll make 'em shine.
