Maybe it's the heat

Story Behind The Song

I had been writing song lyrics for years - without knowing that they were song lyrics - just files and files full of dog eared pages of poetry and lines which meant something to me. Then, I met Keith, who took the words to my summer love affair saga, jiggled them all up and turned them into something better, and put guitar chords to them. Then, one hot summer's day, Bob came over with his guitar to help cut the final demo version and gave us what we hadn't realised the song needed. Maybe it's the heat, you can blame it on the weather. Or blame it on the girl, or maybe blame it all on me.

Maybe It?s the Heat ? © Jon Harrington/Keith Hill 2002-3

Maybe it's the heat
You can blame it on the weather
Or blame it on the girl
Or maybe blame it all on me

The way she did her hair
I should?ve seen it coming
Oh, the curve of her neck
The way her shoulder's bare

But she swept me off my feet
I was helpless to resist her
She stole away my heart and soul and car keys
In exchange for a kiss

(Instrumental on verse)

(Chorus)
Maybe it's the heat
What else could it be
You can blame it on the girl
Or maybe blame it all on me

She led me on a merry dance
And stole away my mind
And left me in a smokey bar
And an empty jug of wine

I don't know if she cared for me
But that?s the way it seemed
By the way she held my hand so tight
As she told me of her dreams

(Instrumental on verse, then chorus)

I thought I saw her yesterday
Coming down the stairs
But when I turned to meet her eyes
I saw she wasn't there

Maybe it's the heat
You can blame it on the weather
Or blame it on the girl
Or maybe blame it all on me

(instrumental on verse to finish)
